At Dornoch Castle we had the challenge of extending a stunning listed building that has a long and illustrious history. The 16th century castle and walled garden has for some years been used as a luxury hotel, and we were required to introduce a large extension while still respecting and safeguarding the rich heritage of the original building.
The project involved remodelling parts of the existing castle to create new luxury bedrooms, and designing a new extension with an additional 12 bedrooms, a restaurant, and function rooms. The project was approved by Historic Scotland and the local planning authority, but has not yet been built. Today the castle still continues as an elegant retreat imbued with centuries of local history.
